| Michael Sirois' Trip to Washington,
D.C. -- September 2003 -- Index Page 9/19/2003 to 9/23/2003 |

About 8:00 AM, Friday, 9-19-2003
I left for Washington the day after Hurricane Isabel had lashed the East Coast. After a brief delay at the airport in Houston, we took off. Once we were in the air, they told they didn't know if we were going to be able to land at Reagan National Airport. It was still officially closed, and had been most of the morning. Continental decided to get us in the air and find out later. At one point there was talk of diverting us to Dulles Airport, which would have meant a $40 cab ride instead of a $15 one. Fortunately Reagan opened up before we landed.
I was
in D.C. for two full days before the conference started. Click on any
of the images below to go to a series of pictures for that day.

These are pictures
from the 19th and the 20th. The day I arrived I didn't do much
sightseeing, but the next day I did quite a lot, so most of the pictures
are from the 20th.

I decided I
had plenty of time to do some more sightseeing, so I walked to the National
Mall and spent the day there.

Many of the
shots I took were of vast spaces, so I stitched some of them together
later to create panoramas. Here are some from Arlington Cemetery,
the National Mall, etc.
